Mandatory GST invoice fields: Supplier name, address, GSTIN; Invoice number & date; Recipient name, address, GSTIN (for B2B); HSN/SAC code; Description, quantity, unit, rate, value; Taxable value; CGST/SGST (intra-state) or IGST (inter-state) with rate & amount; Total invoice value in words.

CGST + SGST: when supplier and recipient are in the same state (intra-state supply). Each is half the GST rate (e.g., 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST). IGST: when supply crosses state lines or is an export (inter-state supply). IGST = full GST rate (e.g., 18%).

GST rate slabs: 0% — essential food items, books, healthcare. 5% — common household items, transport. 12% — computers, processed food. 18% — most services, electronics, AC restaurants. 28% — luxury goods, automobiles, tobacco.

HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) is a universal classification code for goods. SAC (Service Accounting Code) is for services. Mandatory if annual turnover > ₹1.5 Cr. 4-digit HSN for ₹1.5–5 Cr; 6-digit for > ₹5 Cr. Small businesses (<₹1.5 Cr) are exempt.

GST invoice numbering must be: Sequential (no gaps), Unique per financial year (restart in April), max 16 characters. Common formats: INV-2024-001, TK/24-25/001. You can use alphabets, numbers and/or special characters like /, - in the invoice number.
